Yarn Quality control for coated yarns
With a special version of BarcoVision’s Profile detector, yarn quality of coated yarns can be monitored.Coated yarns made out of extruded mono filaments, twisted glass fiber or other synthetic filaments are used to weave mesh fabrics for wind screens, filters, insect screens, reinforcing construction fabrics and agricultural netting.
With the Profile detectors, installed on every spindle of the take up winder, spots in the yarn showing irregular coating are detected. Uncoated spots in the yarn will show up in the fabric as white or transparent streaks. In some cases uncoated spots are the cause for several meters of off quality fabric.
The Profile sensor measures the yarn diameter. This version of the profile detector has a double precision compared to the profile detectors used in other spinning applications. An uncoated spot in the yarn may only show a minor diameter reduction in the coated yarn diameter. Also pearls in the coated yarn will be detected. These thick spots can be caused by an extruder defect or in case of a multi filament core yarn can be the cause of the thick spot. Further very small reductions in yarn diameter of a longer length of yarn are also detected by the Profile system.
On an extruder / take up winder line, the individual spindle cannot be stopped in case a defect is detected. Therefore the central control unit will classify the detected defects. If at doffing, there are too many defects of a certain category (e.g. defects longer than x mm) the red LED indicator on the detector will flag the package as off quality. Good packages are flagged through the green LED. Through the selective doffing procedure, good packages can be separated from the off quality packages.
Recently BarcoVision has sold Profile installations on coated yarns lines in several European and American mills. The take up winders can be of any make, e.g. Sahm or Leesona. Since a lot of water is used to cool the coated yarn, the Profile detectors are specially sealed.
